A full backyard design is $500. Front and backyard together is $750. That includes a scaled 3D design, a 2D construction plan, an HOA plan and permit plans: everything you need to build your project. If we build it, the full design fee is credited back to you.
A design costs what it takes in time, and that depends on how simple or complicated your yard is. A standard residential home, front and backyard, falls into the base price.
Larger properties with big elevation changes take more hours, so the price goes up a bit. But a lot can be done for not much more, even on a large property. If your yard is bigger than standard, I'll tell you the price before we start.
| Design | Introductory price | Includes |

| Front and backyard | $750 | The same plan set for both yards |
| Bid review | Complimentary | I look over up to three bids you already have and call you back |
Engineering and architectural drafting. Some projects need stamped drawings from a licensed engineer or architect. Taller retaining walls and some patio covers and structures are common examples. We arrange that work for you and quote it separately before anything starts, so there are no surprises.
You can take the same materials and the same amount of labor and create something beautiful, or create a mess. It depends on whether the person planning it truly knows what to do and what not to do.
Even homeowners who get a plan often end up with one that isn't what it should be. So it's not just about having a plan. It's about working with somebody who knows what they're doing.
When it goes wrong, it looks like this: materials that don't flow together, areas whose size and shape don't make sense, transitions between materials that don't work, and parts of the yard that just don't work together.
Say you're building the whole project in a high-end designer paver. To save a couple of bucks, you decide to pour plain concrete in the side yard for the trash cans, because it's just the side yard.
What most people don't realize is that a small concrete pour comes with short-load fees, and you have to bring in finishers. Before you know it, you've spent about twice as much on that concrete as you expected. And it doesn't flow with the rest of the landscape.
A good plan catches that before anyone orders material.
Less is more. Simpler and more natural works better than anything else. My goal is spaces that feel inviting and warm.
In South Riverside County and North County San Diego, that also means designing for slopes, the heat, water rules, HOA requirements and fire safety. These things really matter, and getting them right is what makes the best environment for you and your family.
If you already have contractor bids, send me up to three. I'll look them over at no cost and call you back with what's missing, unclear or out of line.
I want people to trust us to help them, whether or not they use our services. You come away knowing more than you did, and if you need us later, you know where to find us. For more on reading bids, see my guide on how to compare landscape bids.
